Superior Douglas County Family YMCA

The Y Youth Sports Program is an excellent way to introduce your child to the popular sports of flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and t-ball. This program teaches the skills in each sport, while also focusing on the development of hand-eye coordination and motor-skills. Players learn the concepts of team work and fair play while interacting with other children. These programs place a high emphasis on having fun & ensuring that each player has equal opportunity to play.

Volunteer Coaches
Youth sports at the Y are a success in large part because of all the volunteer coaches. Each team in each league is coached, often by a parent, on a volunteer basis. Each Youth Sports program has opportunities for volunteers to coach, assist and referee games. If you’re a parent of a child enrolling in a youth sport and would like to be a coach, please provide information on the registration form.

Here are the youth sports programs we are offering now through this summer:

This YMCA program is a great introduction to the game of baseball for boys and girls 4K through 2nd grade. Skills such as throwing, fielding, and hitting will be taught. Emphasis is placed on skill development so hopefully ALL participants learn to love this wonderful sport!
4K-K level: Batters start by hitting off a tee and work towards soft-toss near the end of the season.
1-2 level: A soft pitch is implemented and, if needed, will use the tee.

All teams are coached by parent volunteers. Both divisions practice on Tuesday evenings and play games on Thursday evenings. The season begins with the Meet & Greet on June 1. Games begin June 13 and end August 10. All participants and coaches receive a team shirt. No make-up days are available if games are cancelled due to inclement weather. Usually, games will be rescheduled on practice days.

Registration is now closed. Any further additions must be requested and approved prior by Jon Reimer, Aquatic & Sports Director.

We also plan on participating in this year’s Wednesday Night At The Races beginning July 27. Each child will receive a running shirt perfect for sunny summer running. Practices will be Mondays at 5:30pm and races will be on Wednesdays, times TBD. Inclement weather will result in cancellation of that days’ practice/event.The Y is excited to announce that this years’ head coach is Charles Corbett, an All-American long distance runner from UW-Superior! He is currently on staff as a youth swim lesson
instructor and lifeguard. Charles has extensive experience working with youth in a variety of areas and is pursuing a career in the education field.
