Superior Douglas County Family YMCA

1The Y Youth Sports Program is an excellent way to introduce your child to the popular sports of flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and t-ball. This program teaches the skills in each sport, while also focusing on the development of hand-eye coordination and motor-skills. Players learn the concepts of team work and fair play while interacting with other children. These programs place a high emphasis on having fun & ensuring that each player has equal opportunity to play.

Volunteer Coaches
Youth sports at the Y are a success in large part because of all the volunteer coaches. Each team in each league is coached, often by a parent, on a volunteer basis. Each Youth Sports program has opportunities for volunteers to coach, assist and referee games. If you’re a parent of a child enrolling in a youth sport and would like to be a coach, please provide information on the registration form.

Here are the youth sports programs we are offering this fall:

Flag Football
Flag Football at the Y is the perfect introduction to this sport! Thanks in large part to all the wonderful volunteer parent/coaches, we work hard to teach the basics of football in a positive, welcoming environment that will allow all children equal playing time and opportunities to play all positions. The 2017 season will take place at the Bayside Baptist Church in Billings Park. Due to the construction taking place at Cooper Elementary, the Y was forced to find an alternative site and Bayside Baptist has offered to be that site! We are very excited to bring Flag Football to their fields!

Volleyball is a game unlike any other! Only through playing as a team will each individual be able to become a star. And young athletes will learn all about the basics of this exciting sport without having to commit a large amount of time and money. Volunteer ?parent-coaches work hard to create a fun environment where all participants learn how to pass, serve, set, and maybe even spike! All games and practices are held here at the Y. Practices are Thursday evenings and games are Sunday afternoons, both here at the Y.

Youth Basketball
This is an introductory-level basketball program offered to all youth currently in the 4K-2nd grades. Each team meets once per week for a one hour practice and plays one game on Saturdays. All practices and games are here at the Y. Each team is coached by parent-volunteers which are assisted & supervised by YMCA Youth Sports staff.
