2023-2024 Junior Whalers
Junior whalers is perfect for those interested in swim team but not quite ready for competition. This program will teach swimmers the same skills are the regular whalers swim team without competing in meets. Jr. Whalers will be coached by swim team staff, and will have the opportunity to use their skills by racing against other junior whalers in a non- competitve practice style mock competition. This will be geared towards kids who want the opportunity to learn more about competitive swimming but aren't interested in competing.

Registration will open August 14th and close on September 25th.
YMCA Members Only: $200

We believe this philosophy is perfect for our swim team program. It helps to build confidence in all swimmers regardless of age or experience because we understand that there’s more to being a truly successful swimmer than just finishing first. Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility are four core values of our team that we promote through positive coaching techniques, parental involvement, and peer mentoring. Our program focuses on fundamentals, mechanics, and sportsmanship.

Our swim team is more than just another sport for your child to spend time on. We believe that being a Whaler means more than that! Keeping in mind our three areas of focus, the impact this team makes will be seen at home, in the classroom, and in the community that each of us call home! Our belief is that every program we offer must promote Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The Whalers’ Swim Team accomplishes this goal by learning about teamwork, sportsmanship, and how to properly represent The Y at swim meets, at school, and out in the community.

The Superior YMCA Whalers Swim Team is a part of the Minnesota YMCA Competitive Swim League. The League and our team follow guidelines endorsed by the YMCA and the “Rules that Govern YMCA Competitive Sports.” A copy of these guidelines and rules is available upon request.

Swimmers must be between the ages of 5 and 18, and have started Kindergarten or still in high school. Swimmers ages 8 and under must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle with rotary breathing and 25 yards of backstroke without stopping or using any flotation aids. Youth ages 9 and older must be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle with rotary breathing and 50 yards of backstroke without stopping or using any flotation aids.  Swimmers older than 18 may still qualify to swim with us.  Please contact Coach Stefan if you're interested in learning more.

Head Coach, Stefan Pagnucci:
Senior Program Director Shawn Pagnucci:

We are excited to announce the official partnership with TYR! As the brand of choice for the official swim team swimsuit, we already knew that the quality of products they make is second to none. When we were approached with this opportunity, the decision was easy!

Coach Stefan and Shawn Pagnucci will work with Northwest Outlet, the local TYR provider in creating a team catalog for families to use. Because each swimmer will need to bring their own equipment to each practice this season, we are excited that part of this agreement includes a 20% discount on select team apparel at Northwest Outlet! And remember; the swim team will provide each swimmer with a swim cap to start the season. Additional caps will be available at-cost throughout the year.

Please watch for an email for more information as it becomes available.

The Official provider of all swim team apparel and equipment for the Superior YMCA Whalers swim team!
