Swimming Lessons

The Superior Y uses a standardized swim lesson curriculum developed by Y-USA. We utilize small class sizes: no more than 4 students per instructor for beginner levels and 6:1 for advanced levels. Most swim lessons are taught in our Rec Pool with a zero-depth/beach entry and water temperatures between 87-90 degrees all year, allowing children to learn to swim in small class sizes at water depths appropriate for the skill level (no greater than chest deep for beginners). Youth lessons use play-based curriculum resources. Visual aids are available to support all stages in our curriculum for participants who can benefit from this accommodation. For more information on lessons please visit this page

Aquatic Safety Training

Learn the rescue skills needed to become a YMCA Lifeguard! We offer Lifeguard Certification Class opportunities throughout the year for strong swimmers ages 16 and up, or our Y Aquatic Safety Assistant Classes for candidates 14 and older. Email Kennedy at kdavis@superiorymca.org for information about our next upcoming Lifeguard class.

Adult Aquatics

Water provides the ideal environment for exercise. The natural buoyancy of water reduces weight-bearing stress, allowing greater ease of movement with less impact on joints and muscles. The increased density of water creates even and fluid resistance; toning and strengthening muscles with greater balance and efficiency. Whatever your level of physical activity, water exercise is an excellent way to improve fitness and maintain health at any age!

Splash

Splash offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. No swimming ability is required, and a SilverSneakers kickboard or other aquatic equipment is used to improve strength, balance, and coordination. Class is held in the Rec Pool. See schedule.

Water Aerobics  Water Aerobics uses the natural resistance and buoyancy of water against your body to provide a wide variety of conditioning activities. Water Aerobics incorporates water bells, noodles and water boards. Water Aerobics is not part of the SilverSneaker Program. This water class is designed to be higher intensity fitness class. Next class: TBD

Adult Swim Lessons
Learn to swim, build your existing skills, or train to meet a personal goal! Beginner swim lessons highlight water basics and stroke mechanics. Intermediate and advanced swimmers improve stroke efficiency and build endurance. Our experienced adult instructor offers personalized instruction with weekly "homework" assignments. See the Swim Lesson page.

Private Swim Lessons
If the Wednesday evening group lesson option doesn't fit your busy schedule, maybe our one-on-one or semi-private swim lesson program is a better fit. Based upon instructor availability, we work around your schedule and tailor each lesson towards goals that you and the instructor set together. E-mail Kennedy kdavis@superiorymca.org for more information.
